As most of you know, Instagram rolled out a brand new feature, IGTV, which allows users to upload long-form video content, up to an hour long in length. **currently only verified accounts accounts with significantly sized audiences can upload the full hour length- otherwise videos are limited to 10 minutes.**
And to further differentiate itself from Youtube, all video must be uploaded in vertical format- like how we watch Instagram stories- which, according to statistics, is how we will take in the majority of video content in a few short years.
If you're thinking, "So what? What does this have to do with me?"
I'm here to tell you, if you are wanting to build a brand or business with the help of Instagram, it has EVERYTHING to do with you- and here's why:
IGTV, being only a a couple weeks old from when I'm writing this, is still very unsaturated compared to the rest of it's mothership (Instagram) and other social media platforms. But where this typically would be a snooze fest on 99.9% of other brand-new platforms, due to the lack of traffic and presence, IGTV is the exception because it's integrated in an app with a BILLION users.
To put it simply, the sooner you start showing up on IGTV, the more opportunity for users to come across your content, which hopefully will translate to more followers, traffic, sales, etc.
So how do we get started? What's the best way to utilize IGTV??
Here's the best part:
There isn't an instruction manual telling us what to post or how to use this feature. It's totally up to you and me to decide how we want to show up, and write the rules as we go.
But I realize a new platform with that much potential attention can be a little daunting- and you probably haven't even had an opportunity to figure out what type of content you want to use IGTV to showcase!
I get it- the first step is often the hardest. So let me offer you a solution to get you started:
Simply introduce yourself.
Create a brief self-introduction video- does't have to be fancy- just prop up your phone and start talking about the one thing you know best- YOURSELF.
This way whoever comes across your channel can get a quick rundown of who you are, what you're about, and then decide if they want to stick around or not.
Here are some things you may want to include in your video:
your name + what you do / how you use IG to serve others
what you love about your business
what you do in your free time
a fun fact or two
how you plan to use IGTV (if you know already)
how someone could best reach you with business inquiries
And if you're still feeling nervous or unsure about what to say in your self-introduction video, I created a freebie that includes a complete script template- so all you have to do is fill in the blanks with your specific details and you're good to go!
